NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday slammed the Congress for undermining the integrity of the Election Commission of India and making allegations against the election process after losing the Haryana Assembly elections. The prime minister hailed the Bharatiya Janata Party's victory in Haryana for the third consecutive term and also lauded the peaceful elections in Jammu & Kashmir, which he said was the victory of the Indian Constitution and democracy.

Addressing party workers at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi after the results, Modi said the Congress wanted to tarnish every institution of the country. He was referring to the Congress party’s allegations that voting machines in Haryana were tampered with.

"You will remember the kind of ruckus they created before the results of the Lok Sabha elections. Today also, they have done the same. Congress has tried to mislead the people of the country. Congress always tries to question the impartiality of our institutions, tries to tarnish their reputation. This has been the habit of Congress," Modi said.

Hailing the historic mandate for the BJP in Haryana, Modi said this had strengthened its resolve to make India the skill capital of the world. "I assure all of you that the coming five years will be of development, Haryana will develop, Jammu-Kashmir will develop, India will develop, and we will do it," Modi said.

The prime minister said that the BJP government in Haryana would give more impetus to work for the welfare of the poor. "From free medical facilities to tap water and concrete houses, Haryana's poor families have got many facilities in last 10 years," Modi said.

He also said Haryana would give strength to the mission of self-reliance in edible oil. "Haryana is among the leading states of the country in terms of agriculture. Our goal is very clear. BJP government wants to take Haryana's produce to the markets of the world. Haryana is also going to give strength to the mission of self-reliance in edible oil. This will also benefit Haryana's oilseed farmers more," he said.

The prime minister said that many conspiracies were being hatched to weaken India's democracy and social fabric. "International conspiracies are being hatched. National parties like Congress and their allies are involved in this game. Today, Haryana has given a befitting reply to every such conspiracy," he said.  End
