--RBI: Govt re-appoints M Rajeshwar Rao as deputy governor for 1 year
NEW DELHI – The government has re-appointed M. Rajeshwar Rao as a deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India for one year with effect from Wednesday, the central bank said in a release. Rao was appointed deputy governor in October 2020 for a period of three years and was given a one-year extension last year. His term was scheduled to end on Oct. 8.
Rao, a career central banker since 1984, is currently in charge of the department of regulation, department of communication, enforcement department, legal department and risk monitoring department. He has previously held positions at regional offices in Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chennai, and New Delhi. Before being elevated to the post of deputy governor, he was the executive director of the central bank. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Cochin, along with being a certificated associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers. End
