ADB approves $162 mln loan to develop tourism projects in Himachal Pradesh

NEW DELHI – The Asian Development Bank has approved a loan of $162 million to develop sustainable and inclusive tourism projects in Himachal Pradesh, the multilateral bank said in a press release Wednesday. "This project will enhance the state's tourism potential by upgrading and preserving heritage and cultural sites, establishing new facilities, and strengthening tourism sector management," ADB Senior Project Officer Vivek Vishal was quoted as saying in the release.

 

The 'Sustainable and Inclusive Tourism Development Project' will promote heritage and cultural centres in the Himachal Pradesh districts of Mandi and Hamirpur, and restore the Naggar Castle in Kullu, among other projects, the ADB said. The projects will use green solutions such as solar lighting and electric vehicles and will focus on the needs of the elderly, women, children, and persons with disabilities, the multilateral bank said.  End
