--SEBI: Stocks in optional T+0 settlement to go up to 500 from 25 in phases

MUMBAI – The Securities and Exchange Board of India Monday approved increasing the number of stocks eligible for trading under the optional T+0 settlement to 500 from 25 in a phased manner, the market regulator said in a press release. The board took the decision after reviewing the beta version of the optional T+0 settlement cycle, it said.

The regulator also said all registered stockbrokers can offer access to the optional T+0 settlement to their investors, and they are free to charge a differential brokerage for the same. An optional block deal window mechanism will be introduced under the T+0 settlement cycle from 0845 IST to 0900 IST, along with the existing block windows under the T+1 settlement cycle, SEBI said.

The market regulator also said it is currently not considering moving to the optional instantaneous settlement from the optional T+0 settlement, which was proposed earlier. The optional T+0 settlement in the equity spot market will continue to co-exist with the extant T+1 settlement cycle, SEBI reiterated.  End
