MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department today said conditions are likely to become favourable for the withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon from more parts of Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab over the next two to three days. Over the same time period, it also sees the monsoon withdrawal from some parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh.

Last week, Southwest Monsoon had withdrawn from some parts of west Rajasthan and Kutch in Gujarat. The normal withdrawal date for the Southwest Monsoon is Sep 17, the weather bureau said.

Meanwhile, the weather agency also said a cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Assam and neighbourhoods at lower tropospheric levels. Under the influence of this weather system, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely over northeastern states during the next four to five days, it added. Arunachal Pradesh is likely to receive heavy rainfall till Wednesday, the weather bureau said.

Moving to the southern part of the country, the India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall over coastal and northern interior Karnataka and Lakshadweep today. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are also likely to receive heavy showers till Friday, while similar weather conditions are seen over Kerala and Mahe till Thursday, the weather agency said.

The meteorological department said north, west, and central India are not likely to receive any significant rainfall during the next one week. As of Sunday, the country received 8% above normal showers at 932.2 mm, from Jun. 1.  End
