NEW DELHI – The government has allocated 5,841 tn for sugar exports to the European Union under the tariff-rate quota for 2024-25 (Oct-Sep), the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a notification late Friday. Lower customs duties apply under the tariff-rate quota.
The notification said that for preferential sugar exports to the EU, the Additional Director General of Foreign Trade, Mumbai, if required, will issue a certificate of origin on recommendation of the Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority. The apex export body will operate quotas for sugar export under the tariff-rate quota to the EU.
In October 2023, the government extended restrictions on exports of raw sugar, white sugar, refined sugar, and organic sugar, amid concerns over low sugar production in 2023-24. However, the restrictions do not apply to sugar being exported to the EU and the US under the CXL concession and tariff rate quota as per the prescribed procedure. End
