In Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely today, the weather bureau said. Similar weather conditions are also likely over central Maharashtra on Saturday as well. The agency has predicted scattered light to moderate rainfall over Marathwada during the week.

In east and northeast India, the agency forecasts isolated heavy rainfall over Jharkhand and Odisha today. Similar weather conditions are expected in Arunachal Pradesh today and from Tuesday to Thursday. In Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, heavy rainfall is forecast from Monday to Thursday.

In central India, isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh today. Similar weather conditions can be witnessed over west Madhya Pradesh on Saturday.

In south peninsular India, widespread light to moderate rainfall is very likely over Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep next week. Similar weather conditions can be witnessed over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal till Sunday, and in Kerala and Mahe from Saturday to Wednesday.

In view of the above weather conditions, the India Meteorological Department has asked farmers in central Maharashtra and Marathwada to postpone harvesting of matured soybean, groundnut, maize, and pearl millet. It has also asked farmers to drain excess water from rice, finger millet, turmeric, groundnut, vegetables, and orchards in the Konkan region of Maharashtra. The weather department also warned farmers to keep the harvested produce in safer places. Meanwhile, for urban regions, the weather department has alerted people about localised flooding of roads, water logging in low-lying areas, and closure of underpasses.  End
