India gets 37% below normal rain in week ended Wed, says IMD

--IMD: India rainfall in week to today 37% below normal at 22.8 mm 

 

MUMBAI – The country got an average rainfall of 22.8 mm in the week ended Wednesday, 37% below the normal rainfall of 36.4 mm for the period, the India Meteorological Department said. All the four homogenous regions in the country received below normal showers during the week, the weather bureau said.

 

East and northeast India received 66% below normal rainfall at 22.4 mm during the week and northwest India received 73% below normal rains at 5.2 mm. Central India received 14% below normal rainfall at 30.9 mm and the southern peninsula received 7% below normal rains at 36.8 mm.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "normal" in six subdivisions and "excess" in five during the week. The rainfall was "large excess" in one subdivision, while it was "deficient" in six. The rainfall was "large deficient" in 18 subdivisions in the country during the week.

 

Since Jun 1, India has received 894.7 mm of rainfall, 5% above the normal level of 848.5 mm for the period. End
