Centre asks Tamil Nadu to resolve Samsung workers' strike - sources

NEW DELHI – Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has written to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin about the ongoing workers' strike at the Sriperumbudur plant of Samsung Electronics, government sources said.
Mandaviya has asked the state government to intervene for an "early and amicable resolution", sources said. The minister has also assured full support from the central government to help the state in resolving the matter.
Over 1,000 workers at the Samsung factory on the outskirts of Chennai have been protesting for three weeks now. Workers have been demanding higher wages and recognition of their union. According to media reports, Samsung has said that it pays nearly twice the average salary paid by other companies to similar workers in the region. End
