MUMBAI – Rainfall across the country today was 6.1 mm, 11% above the normal of 5.5 mm, according to the India Meteorological Department. Since Jun 1, India has received 886.9 mm of rainfall, 5% above the normal of 843.2 mm for the period, it said.

Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two regions received below-normal rainfall and the other two received above-normal showers. East and northeast India received rainfall that was 21% below normal at 7.8 mm. Rainfall was 99% below normal in northwest India. Central India received 83% above rainfall at 9.1 mm, and the southern peninsula received 62% above-normal rains at 9.1 mm. 

Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three received above-normal rainfall so far this season, while east and northeast India have received below-normal rainfall. Since Jun 1, the region has received rainfall 17% below normal at 1,092.4 mm. While all the sub-regions in east and northeast India have received "normal" showers so far in the season, only Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, and Bihar have received "deficient" rainfall.

So far in the season, rainfall has been normal in 18 of the country's 36 subdivisions. Rainfall was in "large excess" in two subdivisions, "excess" in 10, and "deficient" in six, it said.  End
