Reforms in global institutions key to peace, development, says PM Modi at UN

NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi today asserted that the success of humanity lies in collective strength and expressed the need for reforms in global institutions for overall development and peace across the globe. He said that reforms are the key to relevance. Modi was speaking at the "Summit Of The Future" at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
"Success of humanity lies in our collective strength, not in the battlefield. And for global peace and development, reforms in global institutions are essential. Permanent membership of G20 to the African Union at New Delhi Summit was one step in this direction," Modi said.
Modi said that while prioritising sustainable development, we must also ensure human welfare, food and health security. "When we are discussing global future, we must accord the highest priority to human-centric approach," Modi said. By lifting 250 mln people out of poverty, India has demonstrated that sustainable development can be successful and was ready share this experience of success with the entire global south, he added.
The prime minister called terrorism a serious threat to global peace. "While on one hand, terrorism continues to be a serious threat to global peace and security; on the other hand, cyber, maritime and space are emerging as new theatres of conflict. On all these issues, I will stress that global action must match global ambition," Modi said.
He further said that the digital public infrastructure should be a bridge not a barrier for global good and India is ready to share its digital public infrastructure with the entire world. "There is a need for balanced regulations at global level for safe and responsible use of technology. We need global digital governance which ensures that national sovereignty and integrity are upheld," Modi said. End
