MUMBAI – The southwest monsoon has withdrawn from some parts of west Rajasthan and Gujarat's Kutch today, the India Meteorological Department said. The normal withdrawal date for the southwest monsoon is Sep 17, it said.
The line of monsoon withdrawal passes through Anupgarh, Bikaner, and Jodhpur in Rajasthan, and Dwaraka and Bhuj in Gujarat, the department said. It added that conditions are favourable for the southwest monsoon to exit some more parts of west Rajasthan and parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Gujarat in the next 24 hours.
So far, west Rajasthan has received 74?ove normal rainfall at 482.1 mm, and Kutch received 105?ove normal showers at 808.5 mm, according to the weather department. The country also received above normal precipitation so far this southwest monsoon at 878.1 mm, against the normal of 832.4 mm, the data showed.
Meanwhile, a low-pressure area is very likely to form over the west-central Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood during the next 24 hours under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over the central Bay of Bengal, the department said.
It predicted extremely heavy rainfall over parts of coastal and north interior Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Goa over the next three days. Similar conditions are also expected in parts of Konkan on Tuesday and Wednesday, it said.
Very heavy rainfall is very likely over Assam and Meghalaya on Wednesday and Thursday, and over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday, the weather department said. End
