--IMD: India Sep 20 rainfall 0.7 mm, 85% below normal 

--IMD: India Jun 1-Sep 20 rainfall 874.6 mm, 6% above normal 

MUMBAI – Rainfall across the country today was 0.7 mm, 85% below the normal of 4.8 mm, according to the India Meteorological Department. Since Jun 1, India has received 874.6 mm of rainfall, 6% above the normal of 822 mm for the period, it said.

All the four homogeneous regions in the country received below-normal rainfall today. East and northeast India received rainfall that was 86% below normal at 1.1 mm. Rainfall was 78% below normal at 0.5 mm in northwest India. Central India received 88% below normal rainfall at 0.6 mm, and the southern peninsula received 82% below-normal rains at 1.1 mm. 

Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three have received above-normal rainfall so far, while east and northeast India has received

below-normal rainfall. Since Jun 1, the region has received rainfall 15% below normal at 1,083 mm. While all the sub-regions in east and northeast India have received "normal" showers so far in the season, only Arunachal Pradesh and Bihar have received "deficient" rainfall.

So far in the season, rainfall has been normal in 21 of the country's 36 subdivisions. Rainfall was in "large excess" in two subdivisions, "excess" in nine, and "deficient" in four, it said.  End
