--Minister Vaishnaw: 2 countries keen on importing Vande Bharat trains

--CONTEXT: Union Minister Vaishnaw speaking at an event

NEW DELHI – Two countries have expressed interest in importing India-made Vande Bharat trains, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said today at an event, without naming the two nations. Vaishnaw had said in February that the government was working on a plan to export Vande Bharat trains.

State-owned BEML, which manufactures the Vande Bharat sleeper trains, had previously said that it would look to export the trains from 2025.

Speaking at the event, Vaishnaw said that the second version of the semiconductor policy, which will be in place in next 3-4 months, will have a more comprehensive overview of value chains.

ON GROWTH

Vaishnaw said that the Indian economy will grow at 10-14% on a nominal basis in the next four years, and 6-8% on a real basis. India's real GDP grew 8.2% in 2023-24 (Apr-Mar).

He also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government will lay the foundation of a developed economy in this third term.

"The first term was about filling holes in the economy, the second term was disrupted by COVID. The third is where we'll lay the foundation to become a developed country by 2047," Vaishnaw said.  End
