India rainfall 13% below normal today, 7% above normal since Jun 1

--[I] IMD: India Jun 1-Sep 18 rainfall 871.9 mm, 7% above normal
MUMBAI – Rainfall across the country today was 4.6 mm, 13% below the normal of 5.3 mm, according to the India Meteorological Department. Since Jun 1, India has received 871.9 mm of rainfall, 7% above the normal of 812.1 mm for the period, it said.
Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two received below-normal rainfall today while the other two received above-normal rainfall. East and northeast India received 79% below-normal showers at 1.9 mm, while the southern peninsula received 92% below-normal rain at 0.5 mm. Northwest India received a whopping 161% above-normal rainfall at 6.5 mm. Central India received 13% above-normal rain at 6.5 mm.
Since Jun 1, east and northeast India has received 14% below normal rainfall at 1,081.6 mm. Rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh and Bihar, which come under this homogeneous region, has been deficient so far during the southwest monsoon.
The weather office sees heavy to very heavy rainfall over Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh today, under the influence of a well-marked low pressure area over parts of Madhya Pradesh and its neighbourhood. A depression over Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh weakened into this well-marked low pressure area, the department said.
So far in the season, rainfall has been normal in 19 of the 36 subdivisions in the country. Rainfall has been in "large excess" in two subdivisions, "excess" in 11, and "deficient" in four, the agency said. End
