MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department sees heavy to very heavy rainfall over Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh today, under the influence of a well-marked low pressure area over parts of Madhya Pradesh and its neighbourhood. A depression over Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh weakened into this well-marked low pressure area, the department said.

The weather agency sees low to moderate flash flood risk over a few watersheds and neighbourhoods of west Uttar Pradesh and west Madhya Pradesh today. IMD has advised farmers to drain excess water from plantations of cotton, maize, soybean, pulses, and vegetables in Madhya Pradesh to prevent water logging. The weather agency also advised them to drain excess water from fields of rice, maize, groundnut, sesame, arhar, black gram, and vegetables in Uttar Pradesh.

The weather agency has forecast heavy rainfall over parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and east Uttar Pradesh today. Parts of Uttarakhand are very likely to receive heavy rainfall till Tuesday, it said. The weather bureau also sees heavy rainfall over parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands today.

In view of such climatic conditions, the weather agency has also advised farmers to make provision for draining out excess water from standing crop fields and fruit orchards to avoid water stagnation in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Odisha, Uttarakhand and Haryana.

In the northeastern region, parts of Assam and Meghalaya are very likely to receive heavy rainfall on Saturday and Sunday. Parts of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are very likely to receive heavy rainfall from Saturday to Tuesday.

The Department has also forecast hot and humid weather over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal till Thursday.

The western end of the monsoon trough is currently north of its normal position and the eastern end is south of its normal position, the agency said.  End
