India's FY25 coal output up 5.9% on year at 411.62 mln tn as of Thu

MUMBAI – As of Thursday, coal production in India in 2024-25 (Apr-Mar) stood at 411.62 mln tn, a significant increase from 388.86 mln tn during the corresponding period last year, the Ministry of Coal said in a release today. Despite adverse climatic conditions and challenging mining activities, production was up 5.85% on year, according to the release.
As of Thursday, coal stock held by coal companies was at 76.49 mln tn, up 49.07%. The coal stock at domestic coal-based thermal power plants was at 36.58 mln tn, growth of 43.68%, according to the release.
Production by Coal India Ltd stood at 311 mln tn, up 2.80% from 302.53 mln tn a year ago, according to the release. This growth is even more notable given the interruptions in mining activities by its subsidiaries due to heavy rain, according to the release.
The dispatch of coal to power plants was up 4.03% at 362.65 mln tn. End
