NEW DELHI – The statistics ministry is likely to hold a survey for service sector enterprises from April, a senior official in the ministry said. The ministry will first hold a pilot 'Annual Survey of Service Sector Enterprises' during Oct-Dec to test its feasibility and methodology, the official said.

The ministry will use Goods and Services Tax Network data for the service sector enterprises survey. "In the pilot we will see if the people are actually doing the business they have filled in the GSTN, and if we can locate the units on the addresses mentioned in the GSTN data," the official said.

"After analysing the pilot survey, we will likely start the full-fledged annual survey by April."

The ministry will not release the unit level data or publish a report of the pilot survey. "This is an internal study where we will see how easily we are able to collect information. The pilot is just for this."

Once the annual survey takes place in 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), its results will "feed into GDP calculations", the official said.

The statistics ministry currently holds an Annual Survey of Industries.  End
