India rains 29% above normal today, 8% above normal since Jun 1

--IMD: India Jun 1-Sep 12 rainfall 844.6 mm, 8% above normal
MUMBAI – Rainfall across the country today was 7.9 mm, 29% above the normal of 6.1 mm, the Indian Meteorological Department said. Since Jun 1, India has received 844.6 mm of rainfall, 8% above the normal of 778.6 mm for the period, it said.
Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two regions received below normal showers today and two received above normal showers. Rainfall was 58% below normal at 4.4 mm in east and northeast India. The southern peninsula received 60% below normal rains at 2.1 mm today. Northwest India received a whopping 190% above normal showers today at 11.6 mm and central India received 47% above normal rains at 9.6 mm today.
Even though northwest India received 190% above normal showers today, rainfall in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir was "large deficient", the weather bureau said. Similarly, west Rajasthan received "deficient" rainfall today.
East and northeast India is the only homogenous region which has continued to receive below normal showers since Jun 1. Rainfall in the region so far was 1,011.4 mm, which is 16% below the normal rainfall of 1,203.1 mm, according to the data. In the region, Arunachal Pradesh and Bihar have received deficient rainfall since Jun 1.
As of today, rainfall has been normal in 16 of the 36 subdivisions. Rainfall was "excess" in 13, and "deficient" in five subdivisions, the weather department said. Rainfall has been "large excess" in two subdivisions. End
