India rains 51% above normal today, 8% above normal since Jun 1

MUMBAI – Rainfall across the country today was 9.1 mm, 51% above the normal of 6.0 mm, the India Meteorological Department said. Since Jun 1, India has received 827.0 mm of rainfall, 8% above the normal of 766.6 mm for the period, it said.
Three out of the four homogeneous regions in the country received below normal showers today and one received above normal showers. Rainfall was 64% below normal at 3.6 mm in east and northeast India. Northwest India received 23% below normal rain at 3.4 mm and the south peninsular India received 20% below normal showers at 3.9 mm. On the other hand, rainfall was a whopping 221% above normal in central India at 19.9 mm today.
Parts of Madhya Pradesh are expected to receive heavy rainfall over the next couple of days under the influence of a depression over north Chhattisgarh, the India Meteorological Department said.
The depression over north Chhattisgarh and adjoining interior Odisha is likely to weaken into a well-marked low pressure area over Chhattisgarh and adjoining east Madhya Pradesh around this evening, the weather agency said in a report. However, there is a possibility of re-intensification of the weather system into a depression around Wednesday evening over central parts of north Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Uttar Pradesh.
In central India, extremely heavy rainfall is very likely over western parts of Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday. So far in the season, rainfall has been normal in 17 of the 36 subdivisions in the country. Rainfall was "excess" in 12, and "deficient" in five subdivisions, it said. Rainfall has been "large excess" in two subdivisions. End
