--IMD: India Sep 9 rainfall 7.7 mm, 26% above normal 

--IMD: India Jun 1-Sep 9 rainfall 817.9 mm, 8% above normal

MUMBAI – Rainfall across the country today was 7.7 mm, 26% above the normal of 6.1 mm, the India Meteorological Department said. Since Jun 1, India has received 817.9 mm of rainfall, 8% above the normal of 760.6 mm for the period, it said.

Two of the four homogeneous regions in the country received below normal showers today. Rainfall was 59% below normal at 4.0 mm in east and northeast India and the northwest received 33% below normal rains at 3.1 mm. Central India received 99% above normal rain at 13.3 mm and the south peninsula region received 84% above normal at 8.3 mm today.

Today, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha in central India received more than 100% above normal rainfall and came under the "large excess" category. These regions received heavy to extremely heavy rainfall today due to a deep depression over northwest Bay of Bengal. 

Moving to the south peninsula, under the influence of the same deep depression, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Telangana also received heavy rainfall today and came under the "large excess" category. Coastal Karnataka also received heavy showers today and was under the same category.   

So far in the season, rainfall has been normal in 17 of the 36 subdivisions in the country. Rainfall was "excess" in 12, and "deficient" in five subdivisions, it said. Rainfall has been "large excess" in two subdivisions since Jun 1.  End
