MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over parts of Odisha, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh today. Under the influence of a deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal, these places are likely to receive extremely heavy showers, the department said.
The weather agency also expects extremely heavy rainfall over parts of east Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday. It expects very heavy showers in parts of west Madhya Pradesh and parts of east Madhya Pradesh till Wednesday. Heavy rainfall is likely over the whole of Madhya Pradesh during the next seven days, it said.
In northwest India, very heavy rainfall is very likely over east Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday and Wednesday, the weather forecaster said. Similar weather conditions are likely during the week over west Uttar Pradesh, east Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttarakhand, according to the bureau.
It said conditions in the sea over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal and along and off the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha-West Bengal coasts would be "very rough" till this evening and on Tuesday, and improve gradually thereafter.
The monsoon trough is currently south of its normal position at mean sea level. It is likely to continue to be so for the next three or four days, according to the weather bureau. End
