--IMD: India Sep 6 rainfall 7.1 mm, 4% above normal 

--IMD: India Jun 1-Sep 6 rainfall 799.5 mm, 8% above normal 

MUMBAI – Rainfall across the country today was 7.1 mm, 4% above the normal of 6.8 mm, the IMD said. Since Jun 1, India has received 799.5 mm rainfall, 8% above the normal of 741.6 mm for the period, it said.

Three out of the four homogeneous regions in the country received above normal showers today and one received below normal showers. Rainfall was 42% below normal at 6.3 mm in east and northeast India. Northwest India received 35% above normal at 6.4 mm and central India received 16% above normal rain at 9.3 mm. Rainfall was 5% above normal in south peninsular India at 5.0 mm today.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast very heavy rainfall over Gujarat, Maharashtra and east Rajasthan till Sunday. Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and parts of east and northeast India are also likely to receive heavy to very heavy showers from Sunday to Tuesday, the weather agency said.

The western end of monsoon trough is near its normal position and eastern end is south of its normal position at mean sea level. It is likely to continue so for the next two to three days, the weather bureau said.

So far in the season, rainfall has been normal in 17 of the 36 subdivisions in the country. Rainfall was "excess" in 12, and "deficient" in five subdivisions, it said. Rainfall has been "large excess" in two subdivisions.  End
