IMD sees very heavy rains over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat today

MUMBAI – Very heavy rainfall is likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam in the southern peninsula, and over Gujarat and cental Maharashtra, today, the India Meteorological Department said. Parts of Rajasthan and Uttarakhand are likely to see similar weather during the next three days, which will decrease thereafter, it said.

 

Under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over coastal Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring areas at lower and middle tropospheric levels, heavy rainfall is also very likely over Kerala and Mahe from Sunday to Wednesday, Telangana till Wednesday, and coastal Karnataka till Monday, the weather bureau said. Moderate flash flood risk is likely over a few watersheds and neighbourhoods of coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand till Friday, the department said.

 

A low pressure area has formed over the west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha Coast and is likely to move slowly northwards during the next two days, according to the weather department.

 

The India Meteorological Department has also forecast very heavy to heavy rainfall over parts of east and northeast India. Arunachal Pradesh is likely to receive very heavy rainfall today, while Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are likely to receive very heavy showers on Wednesday and Odisha is likely to see similar weather conditions over the weekend, it said. 

 

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to experience heavy rainfall today. Bihar is likely to receive heavy showers till Friday and similar weather conditions are seen over Jharkhand from Saturday to Monday, the weather agency said.  End
