MUMBAI – The Centre has allocated 8,606 tn of raw cane sugar for exports under the tariff-rate quota to the US for 2024-25 (Oct-Sep), the Commerce and Industry Ministry said in a public notice on Tuesday. Lower customs duties apply under the tariff-rate quota.
In October 2023, the government extended restrictions on sugar exports amid concerns over low sugar production in 2023-24. The restrictions apply to exports of raw sugar, white sugar, refined sugar, and organic sugar.
However, the restrictions do not apply to sugar being exported to the European Union and the US under the CXL concession and tariff rate quota as per the prescribed procedure, said the notification. End
