HYDERABAD - The Defence Acquisition Council, under the Ministry of Defence, today approved 10 capital acquisition proposals worth 1.45 trln rupees to enhance the country's defence preparedness. The proposals include procurement of future-ready combat vehicles, air defence fire control radars, Dornier-228 aircraft, and next-generation fast patrol vessels, an official release said.

Of the total cost, 99% will be from indigenous sources under the Buy Indian and Buy Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured categories, the release said. Though the release did not mention names of any defence manufacturers, it will likely benefit Indian defence manufacturers, including state-owned Bharat Electronics Ltd, Bharat Dynamics Ltd, and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.

As part of the modernisation of the tank fleet of the Indian Army, a proposal for procurement of Future-Ready Combat Vehicles has been cleared, the release said. These vehicles will be futuristic main battle tanks with superior mobility, all-terrain ability, multi-layered protection, and lethal firing capability.

The council also approved the procurement of air defence fire control radars, which will detect and track aerial targets. It has also approved a proposal to acquire forward repair team equipment that can carry out in-situ repairs during operations. The equipment, designed and developed by Armoured Vehicles Nigam Ltd, is authorised for both the mechanised Infantry Battalion and the Armoured Regiment, the release said.

The council also approved the purchase of Dorner-228 aircraft and next-generation fast patrol vessels for the Indian Coast Guard, the release said.  End
