NEW DELHI – Over 300 mln unorganised workers were registered on the government's e-Shram portal as of Aug 26, the Ministry of State for Labour and Employment said today. The e-Shram portal is a national database of unorganised workers that was launched in August 2021. The government intends to establish the e-Shram portal as a one-stop solution for unorganised workers, the ministry said, adding that this was in line with the Budget 2024-25 (Apr-Mar) announcement.
"A comprehensive integration of e-Shram portal with other portals will facilitate such a one-stop-solution," Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said in her Budget speech, while speaking about support to labour force.
The 'e-Shram-One Stop Solution' will serve as a facilitator to ensure seamless access of various government schemes to unorganised workers. "This will help in creating awareness of the schemes meant for unorganised workers while ensuring saturation of the schemes through identification of left-out potential beneficiaries," the ministry said.
The e-Shram portal is meant to register and support unorganised workers by providing them a Universal Account Number and e-Shram cards.
As part of the 'e-Shram - One Stop Solution' project, the Ministry of Labour and Employment has been working to integrate major schemes like Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Street Vendor's Atmanirbhar Nidhi, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin, ration card scheme, among others, for the benefit of the unorganised workers, the ministry said.
