--Current water level in reservoirs up 26% YoY, 19% from 10-yr avg
MUMBAI – The water level in 155 key reservoirs of the country as of today was 144.333 bcm, 80% of the total live storage capacity of 180.852 bcm, according to data from the Central Water Commission. The current water storage is up 26% from a year ago and 19% from the average for the past 10 years.
In the northern region, the water level in the reservoirs was 11.866 bcm, 60% of the live storage capacity, compared with 83% a year ago. In the eastern region, the water level was 13.636 bcm, 66% of the live storage capacity against 46% a year ago.
In the western region, the water level was 33.582 bcm, 90% of the live storage capacity, against 71% a year ago. In the central region, the water level was 40.478 bcm, 84% of the live storage capacity, against 73% a year ago.
In the southern region, the water level was 44.771 bcm, 82% of the live storage capacity compared with 49% a year ago.
Of the 155 reservoirs, 139 reported more than 80% of normal storage, while 16 reported storage levels at 80% of normal or below that. Of the 16 reservoirs, 6 had storage up to only 50% of the normal level.
Since Jun 1, India has received 734.1 mm of rainfall, 7% above the normal of 686.8 mm for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. End
