Global alumina output up 0.9% on mo in Jul, says aluminium institute

MUMBAI – Global alumina production rose 0.9% on month to 12.16 mln tn in July from 12.05 mln tn in June, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. In July, alumina production was down 0.1% from 12.17 mln tn in the same period last year.
The average daily global alumina production fell to 392,097 tn in July from 401,633 tn in June, according to the revised data.
China accounted for nearly 59% of global alumina production in July at 7.16 mln tn. The country's output was up 0.6% on month from 7.12 mln tn in June, the data showed.
In the Oceania region, alumina output rose to 1.45 mln tn in July from 1.33 mln tn in June. In Africa and Asia, excluding China, production fell to 1.21 mln tn from 1.23 mln tn in June. In Europe, alumina production rose to 628,000 tn in July from 620,000 tn in June, while output in South America fell to 989,000 tn in July from 1.05 mln tn the previous month.
According to the latest data, global primary aluminium production rose 3.5% in July to 6.19 mln tn from 5.98 mln tn in June. At 1240 IST, the most-active August aluminium contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was down 2% at 227.50 rupees a kg. The three-month futures contract on the London Metal Exchange fell 0.9% to $2,473.0 per tn. End
