Cabinet approves 3 railway projects worth 64.56 bln rupees

AHMEDABAD - The Union Cabinet today approved three railways projects worth 64.56 bln rupees, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwani Vaishnav said.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved these projects covering seven districts in four states of Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Chhattisgarh. They would increase the existing network of Indian Railways by about 300 km and will be used for transport of goods as well as passengers.
These projects are located across routes for transportation of commodities, be it agricultural products, fertilisers, coal, iron ore, steel, cement and limestone. The capacity augmentation works will result in additional freight traffic of 45 mln tn per annum.
The government has also proposed construction of 14 new railway stations, which will provide enhanced connectivity to 1,300 villages and population of about 1.1 mln. End
