NEW DELHI – The Bharatiya Janata Party today distanced itself from the remarks of Kangana Ranaut, the party's Lok Sabha member from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, on the farmers' protest and directed her to refrain from making such statements. The actor-turned-politician had said in a video posted on social media platform X on Sunday that "farmers' protest could have led to a Bangladesh-like situation" if strong measures had not been taken by the government.

The BJP said that Ranaut is not authorised to speak on behalf of the party on policy matters. "The BJP has directed Kangana Ranaut to refrain from making such statements in future. The BJP believes in Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas and Sabka Vishwas," according to an official statement issued from the party headquarters.

In her video on X, Ranaut claimed that bodies were seen hanging and rapes took place during farmers' protests. "What happened in Bangladesh, it could have easily happened here too. There is a conspiracy by foreign powers and these filmy people thrive on it. They don't care if the country goes to the dogs," she said.

Ranaut’s statement also drew a sharp response from the Congress party as well. Senior leader Randeep Singh Surjewala, who is campaigning in poll-bound Haryana, asked, "Were these just Kangana's words or did someone else copy them? If not, then why is the BJP silent on the issue?"  End
