India Jul crude steel output up 6.8% YoY, says World Steel Association

MUMBAI – Production of crude steel in India rose 6.8% on year to 12.3 mln tn in July, according to data from the World Steel Association. During the month, the country accounted for over 8% of global steel output.
Globally, crude steel output fell 4.7% on year to 152.8 mln tn last month because of a sharp decline in output in China, Iran, Japan, Russia, and South Korea. For Jan-Jul, global crude steel production was down 0.7% at 1.11 bln tn, while output in India jumped 7.2% to 86.4 mln tn.
Among the top 10 steel producers, Brazil, Germany, India, Turkiye, and the US reported growth in output in July. In China, the world's largest producer, crude steel output tumbled 9% on year to 82.9 mln tn last month. For Jan-Jul, the country's output declined 2.2% on year to 613.7 mln tn, accounting for over 55% of global production.
In Japan, crude steel output was down 3.8% on year at 7.1 mln tn. Production in South Korea dropped 3.4% to 5.5 mln tn in July. The US produced 6.9 mln tn steel last month, up 2.1% on year, while output in Turkiye rose 4% to 3.1 mln tn.
Steel production in Germany is estimated to have increased 4.8% to 3.1 mln tn in July. Crude steel production in Russia is estimated to have declined 3.1% on year to 6.3 mln tn. Overall production in Brazil is estimated to have jumped 11.6% to 3.1 mln tn, while output in Iran plunged 18.7% to 1.8 mln tn last month. End
