Foreign tourist arrivals in India up 9.0% on year in June

NEW DELHI – Foreign tourist arrivals in India rose 9.0% on year to 706,045 in June, data released by the tourism ministry showed. The tourist arrivals in June were 2.8% lower than the pre-pandemic period of June 2019.
In May, 600,496 foreign tourists arrived in India. Around 4.78 mln foreign tourists arrived in India this calendar year, up 9.1% on year.
In June, the maximum number of tourists arrived from Bangladesh at 28.5%, followed by the US at 22.6%, and the UK at 6.1%. Of the total arrivals in June, 30.2% of tourists were from the Indian diaspora, while 40.1?me to India for leisure holiday and recreation.
Delhi saw the biggest influx of tourists at 25.6% of the total arrivals in June, followed by Mumbai at 13.3%, and Haridaspur at 12.7%.
Foreign exchange earnings from tourist arrivals rose 2.8% on year to 192.66 bln rupees in June. In dollar terms, foreign exchange earnings rose 1.3% on year to $2.31 bln in June.
Around 2.4 mln Indian nationals travelled abroad in June, up 8.9% from a year ago. Of the outbound travel, 22.7% was for the United Arab Emirates and 9.3% for Saudi Arabia. End
