Aluminium Institute says global output rises 3.5% on month in July

MUMBAI – Global production of primary aluminium rose 3.5% on month to 6.19 mln tn in July, according to data by the International Aluminium Institute. On an annual basis, production was up 2.4% from 6.05 mln tn a year ago. Global daily average aluminium production rose to 199,806 tn in July from a revised figure of 198,400 tn for June.

 

In China, aluminium production rose by 120,000 tn to 3.69 mln tn in July, the data showed. The country accounts for over 59% of global production of the metal. Daily average aluminium production in China rose to 123,000 tn last month from 119,000 tn in June.

 

In Asia, excluding China, production rose to 408,000 tn in July from 394,000 tn in June. In Africa, the output in May was up 6,000 tn at 135,000 tn.

 

In the Gulf Cooperation Council, the other major producing region after China, aluminium production rose by 21,000 tn to 530,000 tn in July. In western and central Europe, production rose to 242,000 last month from 234,000 tn in June. Output of the metal in North America rose by 8,000 tn to 334,000 tn in July, and in South America, it was up 5,000 tn at 130,000 tn.

 

In June, global alumina production fell 1.4% on month to 11.92 mln tn, as per the latest available data.

 

At 2040 IST, the most active August contract of aluminium on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was up 1.5% at 227.05 rupees a kg. The three-month futures contract on the London Metal Exchange was up 1.4% at $2,480.0 per tn.  End
