IMD sees extremely heavy rains over northeast India for 2 days

MUMBAI – Under the influence of a low pressure area over central Bangladesh, very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is likely over northeast India over the next two days, the India Meteorological Department said. The weather bureau also added that extremely heavy rainfall is very likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura today. 

 

Heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura during the week, the IMD said. Similar weather conditions are also very likely over West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha today, it said. 

 

To prevent submergence of transplanted paddy seedlings in Tripura and Mizoram, the IMD has suggested farmers to drain excess water from field and postpone cowpea sowing in Meghalaya.

 

Since Jun 1, India has received 632.5 mm rainfall, 3% above the normal of 611.8 mm for the period, according to the IMD. However, east and northeast India received 13?low normal showers so far during the season. Northwest India received normal showers so far, while the rest of the two regions recorded above normal showers.  

 

Meanwhile, the weather bureau said very heavy rainfall is very likely over parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Lakshadweep during the next two days. Parts of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kraikal, Lakshadweep, costal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam are likely to receive heavy rainfall today, it said. 

 

The IMD said very heavy rainfall is very likely over Konkan and Goa during the weekend. Central Maharashtra is likely to see similar weather conditions on Sunday and Monday, it said.  

 

In the past 24 hours, very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall was recorded over parts of Tripura and Meghalaya. Very heavy showers were seen over parts of Uttarakhand, east Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Nagaland, Jharkhand, Telangana, Assam, and Rayalaseema, the IMD said.  End
