--Water level in key reservoirs 124.016 bcm, 69% of total capacity 

--Current water level in reservoirs up 11% YoY, 14% from 10-yr avg 

 

MUMBAI – Water level in 150 key reservoirs of the country as of today was 124.016 bcm, 69% of the total live storage capacity of 178.784 bcm, according to data from the Central Water Commission. The current water storage is up 11% from a year ago and 14% from the average of the past 10 years.

 

In the northern region, the water level in the reservoirs was 9.963 bcm, 51% of the live storage capacity compared with 88% a year ago. In the eastern region, the water level was 10.814 bcm, 53% of the live storage capacity against 38% a year ago.

 

In the western region, the water level was 26.871 bcm, 72% of the live storage capacity against 68% a year ago. In the central region, the water level was 34.484 bcm, 72% of the live storage capacity, against 69% a year ago.

 

In the southern region, the water level was 41.884 bcm, 79% of the live storage capacity compared with 53% a year ago. 

 

The water level in reservoirs in Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Tripura, Bihar, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu was higher in percentage terms compared with the same period last year. However, those in Rajasthan, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, and Telangana were down from last year. The water storage in reservoirs in Nagaland was equal in percentage terms compared with the same period last year.

 

Of the 150 reservoirs, 122 reported more than 80% of normal storage, while 28 reported 80% or lower of normal storage levels. Of the 28 reservoirs, 10 had storage up to only 50% of the normal level.

 

Since Jun 1, India has received 615.1 mm of rainfall so far, 5% above the normal level of 588.0 mm for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. End
