--Cabinet OKs civil airports at Bagdogra, Bihta for 29.62 bln rupees
AHMEDABAD – The Union Cabinet today approved the setting up of two new civil enclaves at Bagdogra airport in West Bengal and Bihta airport in Bihar at a cost of 29.62 bln rupees, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw said.
The new civil enclave at Bagdogra airport is proposed to be built at a cost of 15.49 bln rupees. The project includes the setting up of a new integrated terminal building across 70,390 sq metres, as per a press release followed by Vaishnaw's briefing. It would be designed to handle 3,000 peak hour passengers and would have an annual capacity to handle 10 mln passengers. The government also proposed to construct an apron capable of accommodating 10 parking bays suitable for A-321 type aircraft, as well as setting up of two link taxiways and a multi-level car parking, the release said. The government aims to complete the project by 2027, it said in a presentation during the briefing.
Currently, Bagdogra airport operates primarily as a military airport which also allows the operation of some civilian flights.
As for Bihta airport in Patna, the new civil enclave is expected to cost 14.13 bln rupees, the release said. It would have a new integrated terminal building spanning 66,000 sq metres and cater to 5 mln passengers annually. The proposed project includes construction of an apron capable of accommodating 10 parking bays suitable for A-321, B-737-800 and A-320 type aircraft, as well as two link taxiways, the release said. As per the government presentation during today's briefing, the target for completion of this project is stated to be 2026. End
