NEW DELHI – The Union Cabinet today approved the extension of metro rail projects in Bengaluru and Pune, and the construction of a new metro line in Thane, Maharashtra.
The Cabinet approved two corridors in the third phase of the Bangalore metro rail project for 44.65 km with 31 stations. The total project will cost 156.11 bln rupees and will be operational by 2029, the government said in a release. Once the third phase is completed, Bengaluru will have 220.20 km of active metro rail network, the release said.
For the Pune metro rail project, the Cabinet has approved the extension of the Phase-1 project, spanning 5.46 km. The project, which is expected to be operational by 2029, will cost 29.55 bln rupees, which will be shared by the Centre and the state government, along with contributions from bilateral agencies, the release said.
The Cabinet also approved Thane integral ring metro rail project for a cost of 122.00 bln rupees. The project is expected to be operational by 2029 and will be 29 km long with 22 stations. Like in Pune, the cost of the project will be shared among the Centre, the Maharashtra government, and bilateral agencies. End
