--Govt extends export ban on de-oiled rice bran till Jan 31
MUMBAI – The Centre has extended the ban on the export of de-oiled rice bran till Jan 31 from Jul 31 earlier, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade said in a notification today. Export of oil-cake and other solid residues, whether ground or in the form of pellets, resulting from the extraction of vegetable or microbial fats or oils is prohibited, the notification said.
On Aug 2, Informist reported exclusively, citing industry sources, that the government was likely to extend the ban on the export of de-oiled rice bran.
In July last year, the government banned the export of de-oiled rice bran till Nov 30 following a sharp rise in domestic prices of dairy products. De-oiled rice bran, obtained after extraction of oil from rice bran, is an important ingredient for cattle, poultry, and pig feed. However, as per the Solvent Extractors Association of India, de-oiled rice bran has no direct correlation with dairy products.
Previously, India exported de-oiled rice bran primarily to Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand, where it is used in pig feed. End
