India receives 14% below-normal rainfall at 52.8 mm in wk-ended Wed

MUMBAI – India received 52.8 mm rainfall in the week ended Wednesday, 14% below the normal weighted average of 61.1 mm for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. During the week, three homogeneous regions of the country received below-normal rainfall and one received above-normal rainfall. 

 

Rainfall in east and northeast India was 9% below normal at 71.7 mm and central India received 38% below-normal showers at 44.7 mm, according to data. In the south peninsula, rainfall was 7% below normal at 42.6 mm during the week, while precipitation in the northwest was 17% above normal at 58.2 mm.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions, rainfall was "normal" in 11 and "excess" in four. The country received "large excess" showers in four subdivisions and "deficient" in 14 subdivisions. The remaining three subdivisions received "large deficient" showers.

 

Jun 1-Aug 16, India has received 615.1 mm of rainfall, 5% above the normal level of 588.0 mm. End
