--IMD: India Aug 13 rainfall 5.2 mm, 44% below normal 

--IMD: India Jun 1-Aug 13 rainfall 592.7 mm, 5% above normal 

 

MUMBAI – The rainfall across the country was 5.2 mm today, 44% below the normal of 9.3 mm for the day, the India Meteorological Department said. Since Jun 1, the country has received 592.7 mm of rainfall, 5% above the normal of 561.9 mm for the period, the weather bureau said.

 

All four homogeneous regions in the country received below-normal showers today, the IMD said. The rainfall was 53% below normal in east and northeast India, 60% below normal in central India, 27% below normal in the southern region and 21% below normal in northwest India.

 

The rainfall in 71% of the total area of the country was either deficient or worse today, it said.

 

During the season so far, the rainfall has been 11% below normal in east and northeast India, 2% below normal in northwest India, 14% above normal in central India and 22% above normal in the southern peninsula, IMD said.

 

The rainfall during the season so far has been normal in 18 of the 36 subdivisions in the country, excess in 11, and deficient in six subdivisions, it said. The rainfall was in large excess in one subdivision – Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal – since Jun 1.

 

The weather bureau said heavy rainfall is very likely over parts of Uttar Pradesh, east India, and the western Himalayan region over the next seven days. Parts of Haryana, Rajasthan, and northeast India are also likely to receive heavy rains in the next 4-5 days, the IMD said.  End
