MUMBAI – India Meteorological Department has forecast very heavy rainfall over parts of Kerala till Saturday. Similar weather conditions are seen over parts of Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, and south interior Karnataka over the next five days, it said in its daily forecast.

The weather bureau said heavy rainfall is very likely over parts of Uttar Pradesh, east India, and the western Himalayan region over the next seven days. Parts of Haryana, Rajasthan, and northeast India are also likely to receive heavy rains in the next 4-5 days, the IMD said.

The weather conditions in the said regions will likely lead to flooding of roads, water logging in low-lying areas, and closure of underpasses, the IMD said. Damage to horticulture and standing crops in some areas is also expected, it said.

In regions that are likely to receive heavy rainfall, like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and east Rajasthan, the IMD has suggested that farmers drain the excess water from field crops and horticultural crops. The IMD has advised providing mechanical support to horticultural crops and stacking to vegetables. "In Assam, postpone sowing of sesame, green gram and black gram," it said.

In the past 24 hours, east Rajasthan, east Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Kerala, and Meghalaya have received very heavy rainfall, the IMD said. Heavy rainfall was seen over parts of northeast, Rayalaseema, south interior Karnataka, Jharkhand, and Gujarat region. Similar weather conditions were also seen over parts of west Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, gangetic West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu, it said.  End
