NEW DELHI – The number of e-way bills generated rose 19.2% on year to an all-time high of 104.86 mln in July, according to data from the Goods and Services Tax Network. On a month-on-month basis, the number of e-way bills generated rose 4.7% in July.
In July 2023, 87.95 mln e-way bills were generated. E-way bill generation has topped the 100-mln mark in four of the last five months.
An e-way bill is a GST document for transport of goods worth more than 50,000 rupees within or outside a state. As such, the number of e-way bills generated is taken as a lead indicator of economic activity and domestic trade.
The increase in e-way bills generally suggests GST collections would be robust the following month, as most transactions are reflected in next month's collections. GST collections rose 10.3% on year to 1.82 trln rupees in July. End
