--Govt appoints TV Somanathan as Cabinet secy for 2 years from Aug 30
NEW DELHI – The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet today approved the appointment of T.V. Somanathan as Cabinet Secretary for a tenure of two years from Aug 30. Somanathan currently holds the position of finance secretary.
Somanathan will replace the current Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba. The committee has also approved Somanathan's appointment as officer on special duty in the Cabinet secretariat from the date he joins the assignment till he takes over as Cabinet secretary, the appointment committee said in a circular.
Somanathan, a 1987 batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, was appointed as the finance secretary in 2021 after superannuation of Ajay Bhushan Pandey.
Divestment Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey is likely to become the next finance secretary. The senior-most officer among all secretaries in the Ministry of Finance is designated as the finance secretary. End
