MUMBAI – The weighted average rainfall across the country today was 12.6 mm, 34% below the normal of 9.4 mm for the day, the India Meteorological Department said. Since Jun 1, India has received 545.9 mm rainfall, 7% above the normal of 509.6 mm for the period, the weather bureau said.
All four homogeneous regions in the country received above normal showers. Rainfall was 51% above normal at 15.6 mm in east and northeast India and 20% above normal at 9.1 mm in northwest India. Rainfall was 12% above normal in central India at 13.9 mm and 108% above normal at 13.3 mm in the south peninsula.
The weather department said widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan during the rest of the week. Similar weather patterns are also expected over Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi during the week, it said.
In the western parts, interior Gujarat, Konkan, Goa and central Maharashtra are expected to receive widespread rainfall during the week. Parts of West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar are also expected to receive very heavy rains over the next couple of days, the weather bureau said. Additionally, heavy showers are also expected over the plains of West Bengal during the rest of the week.
So far during the season, rainfall has been normal in 15 of the 36 sub-divisions in the country. Rainfall was "excess" in 12, "large excess" in two and "deficient" in seven sub-divisions. End
