Govt appoints CS Setty as SBI chairman for 3 years from Aug 28

MUMBAI – The government has appointed Challa Sreenivasulu Setty as the next chairman of the State Bank of India for three years starting Aug 28, as per an order by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
Setty, currently a managing director at the bank, will replace Dinesh Khara as chairman of the country's largest bank by asset size. Khara was appointed as SBI chairman in October 2020 for a period of three years. The government had last year extended his term, which is set to conclude on Aug 28, when he reaches the retirement age of 63.
The Financial Services Institutions Bureau had recommended Setty for the position in June after interacting with two other candidates.
The government has also appointed Rana Ashutosh Kumar Singh as managing director at SBI. The Financial Services Institutions Bureau had in April recommended Singh for the position. Singh is presently holding the position of SBI's deputy managing director for retail – personal banking and real estate.
Today, shares of the bank ended 1.7% lower at 797.70 rupees on the National Stock Exchange. End
