IMD sees widespread rains over northwest, northeast India for 7 days

MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast fairly widespread rainfall over northwest India and east and northeast India over the next seven days. 

 

The weather bureau predicted widespread-to-fairly widespread rainfall over Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan and scattered-to-fairly widespread rainfall over Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi during the next seven days.

 

During the week, parts of west Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, west Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh are likely to get very heavy rainfall on some days, it said.       

 

It has warned of low-to-moderate flash flood risk over a few watersheds and neighbourhoods of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the next 24 hours. 

 

In east and northeast India, heavy-to-very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Odisha and Bihar.

 

Very heavy rainfall is likely over a few parts of east Madhya Pradesh and heavy rainfall over west Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Konkan and Goa, and Gujarat during the week.

 

The weather agency advised farmers to make provisions for draining water from fields to avoid water stagnation in northeastern states, West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, ghat of central Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, coastal Karnataka, and Telangana. The bureau has asked the farmers to provide mechanical support to horticultural crops and staking for vegetable crops. 

 

In southern India, the weather bureau has predicted heavy rainfall over parts of Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala during the week. Moderate rainfall is likely over most of Kerala, Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Rayalaseema during the week, it said. 

 

Since Jun 1, India has received 523.4 mm of rainfall, 7?ove the normal of 491.0 mm for the period, the IMD said. So far during the season, rainfall has been normal in 15 of the 36 subdivisions in the country, while it was in excess in 14 and deficient in seven subdivisions.  End
