IMD sees extremely heavy rains in parts of west Rajasthan today

MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast extremely heavy rainfall over parts of west Rajasthan today and very heavy rainfall over east Rajasthan today and on Thursday and Friday, Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday and Uttarakhand from Tuesday to Friday.

 

Moderate flash flood risk is likely over a few watersheds and neighbourhoods of west Rajasthan, south Gujarat Region, Konkan, Goa, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand subdivisions during the next 24 hours, according to the weather agency. Surface inundation may occur in some fully saturated soils and low-lying areas due to expected rainfall occurrences in the next 24 hours, the weather bureau said. 

 

The weather agency has warned that such weather conditions and heavy showers can cause damage to horticulture and standing crops in some areas due to inundation.

 

Very heavy rainfall is also very likely in parts of Gujarat and central Maharashtra today, the bureau said. The India Meteorological Department has also forecast heavy rainfall over parts of west Madhya Pradesh during the next five days, east Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday and Thursday, Chhattisgarh till Wednesday, Konkan and Goa till Saturday, central Maharashtra, Gujarat till Friday and over Saurashtra and Kutch today.

 

In view of very heavy showers, the weather agency advised farmers to drain out excess water from rice, soybean, maize, cotton, sugarcane, pigeon pea, black gram, green gram, vegetables and orchards in Madhya Pradesh; rice, sugarcane, cowpea, cluster bean, vegetables and orchards in south Gujarat; pearl millet, groundnut, cotton, cluster bean, green gram, black gram, sesame, soybean, moth bean and orchards in Rajasthan; rice and finger millet in Konkan and ghat areas of central Maharashtra.

 

The bureau also suggested providing mechanical support to horticultural crops and staking of vegetables. 

 

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till Saturday; sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Tuesday and Odisha on Wednesday. Heavy rainfall is also likely over Bihar, Odisha till Thursday, Jharkhand on Tuesday and Wednesday and Gangetic West Bengal on Tuesday, the weather agency said.

 

The India Meteorological Department has suggested making provision for draining excess water from crop fields to avoid water stagnation in North Eastern states, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat region, Tamil Nadu and coastal Karnataka.

 

The monsoon trough is active and south of the normal position at mean sea level and the offshore trough at mean sea level is running along south Gujarat to the northern Kerala coast, the bureau said.  End
