--IMD: India Jun 1-Aug 2 rainfall 484.0 mm, 4% above normal 

 

MUMBAI – The weighted average rainfall across the country today was 15.0 mm, 68% above the normal of 8.9 mm for the day, the India Meterological Department said. Since Jun 1, India has received 484.0 mm of rainfall, 4% above the normal of 463.6 mm for the period, the weather bureau said.

 

All four homogeneous regions in the country received above-normal showers. Rainfall was 135% above normal at 25.8 mm in east and northeast India and 51% above normal at 11.0 mm in northwest India. Rainfall was 65% above normal in central India at 17.2 mm, and 24% above normal at 8.5 mm in the south peninsula. The weather bureau has forecast extremely heavy rainfall in parts of east India during the weekend under the influence of a low pressure area.

 

So far during the season, rainfall has been normal in 14 of the 36 subdivisions in the country. Rainfall was "excess" in 13 and "deficient" in nine subdivisions, it said.

 

In the northeastern parts, heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast in some places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura over the next four days. In the western and central regions, the agency has forecast extremely heavy rainfall over parts of west Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, central Maharashtra, Konkan, and Goa for the next couple of days. The bureau also said that monsoon conditions are likely to remain active over the northwestern, eastern, and central parts of the country for the next three to four days.  End
