NEW DELHI – Air India has suspended all scheduled flight operations to and from Tel Aviv in Israel till Thursday in view of the ongoing situation in parts of West Asia, the airline said in a post on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.  

"We are continuously monitoring the situation and are extending support to our passengers with confirmed bookings for travel to and from Tel Aviv during this period, with a one-time waiver on rescheduling and cancellation charges," Air India said.

Tensions in West Asia have been high since October, when Palestine-based militant group Hamas' attack on Israel claimed the lives of over 1,200 Israeli citizens. In a counterattack, which is still ongoing, Israel has killed close to 40,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.   

Earlier this week, Hamas said that its political leader Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Iran's Tehran. Iran and Hamas blamed Haniyeh's death on Israel, which has neither confirmed nor denied the allegations. 

Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has ordered a direct attack on Israel, The New York Times reported on Wednesday.

The Israeli military on Thursday said it had in July killed the head of Hamas' military wing, Mohammed Deif, who is believed to have been the key figure behind Hamas' attack on Israel in October, in an airstrike in Gaza.  End
